Marloes Coenen

MARLOES

Background

Dutch mixed martial artist Marloes Coenen was born on March 31, 1981. With her brothers and grandfather into jiu-jitsu , Marloes took up martial arts at the age of 14. She trained with Martijin “The Specialist” de Jong at Shooto Holland.

Rain, sleet or snow, Coenen attended her lessons. “I really had respect for that,” commented de Jong.

Debut

It was in November of 2000 when Marloes debuted in the sport when she went up against Yuuki Kondo. Two minutes and thirty-seven seconds into the first round, Coenen won by submission due to an armbar.

On December 5 of 2000, she fought in the Remix- World Cup 2000 where she defeated Mika Harigai via submission (rear naked choke).

MARLOES She then won by submission against Becky Levi and Megumi Yabushita by unanimous decision. By the end of the night, Marloes was the Remix World Cup winner.

Marloes won her next two fights as well. One against Megumi Yabushita in January of 2002 which she won via submission by rear naked choke and another against Miwako Ishihara in May won by Decision.

Smackgirl

Marloes Coenen fought in the Japanese mixed martial arts promotion Smackgirl- World Remix 2004 which is an event strictly for female fighters.

In the tournament style fight, Marloes defeated her first opponent, Yoko Takahashi, by TKO in the first round.

She entered the next fight with a record of 8-0. But the winning streak would end 2:30 in round one when Erin Toughill scored a Knock Out that won her the bout.

Marloes Coenen won her next five fights. Magdalena Jarecka, Keiko Tamai, Majanka Lathouwers, Yoko Takahashi and Yuuki Kondo would all fall victim to Coenen by submission.

Getting Stronger

It was on May 27, 2007 that Marloes defeated Takahashi and Kondo in the K Grace 1, a tournament style bout.

Her third opponent, Roxanne Modaferri, won via decision in the second round though Coenen put up a good fight. MARLOES May 31, 2008, Marloes met up with Asci Kubra in the ring at an event entitled Beast of the East. Marloes won by submission via an armbar.

Romy Ruyssen was next on Marloes list at Thaibox Gala Night in august of 2008. Again Coenen showed her stuff and won with a rear naked choke ending in submission.

Asci and Marloes rematched in October in Tough is Not Enough. Marloes defeated Asci once again TKO in round one.

Marloes took on Cindy Dandois in January of 2009 at Beast of the East and lost by Unanimous Decision. Once again Marloes faced off with Roxanne Modafferi who she had lost to in 2007. It was Marloes first fight with Strikeforce.

This time Coenen won by submission due to an armbar early in the first round.

DeThroned

By January 2010, Coenen was fighting for Strikeforce's Women Featherweight Championship title.

MARLOES Up against Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos, Marloes' efforts would prove to not be enough to bring down the reigning champ, loosing by TKO in round three.

Santos later admitted that Marloes was her toughest opponent to date, however.

Return

Though her next fight has not been set yet but one thing is for certain, Marloes will be there with bells on ...rain, sleet or snow, ready to give it all her all, once again.

Eric Wong trains UFC fighters such as Jeff Joslin, and he wants to train you as well.

He believes there is a "better" way to train and I agree.

You'll train twice a week. That is great for recovery and to have more time for skills training.
I like what Eric is doing and recommend his book.
